Some of the things we did between Mar 2013 and Feb 2014:
The Rainbows
had another fun year.
A big part of this year was the new Rainbow promise, we spent a few weeks looking at the promise and doing activities to help the girls understand it, including making: promise bunting, a faith wheel, help charts and thank you cards.
The girls worked for their Roundabout Festivals badges: finding out about Groundhog day and making their own Punxsutawney Phil, trying out May pole dancing, learning about well dressing and making their own mini displays with seeds and petals, and learning about the Clown Festival.
In January they started working for the Big Brownie Birthday Challenge badge, activities for this included inventing secret codes, doing team work challenges, making world dragon puppets and spinning cd globes, decorating and filling boxes with things that make them smile and planting tomato seeds.
Crafts during the year included making: Mother’s Day cards, Easter cards & daffodil windmills, May flower crowns, Father’s Day cards, Rainbow snakes & ladders boards, Woodland mobiles, Animal finger puppets, Rainbow wall hangers, Christmas felt star garlands, Christmas cards, Jointed Christmas characters, Butterfly calendars, Fabric purses and doing Firework paintings.
They enjoyed a number of theme evenings such as an old fashioned garden games evening, an evening playing lots of different parachute games, a wild animal evening where they made monkey door hangers, a recycling evening including making cat door hangers from old cd’s, an evening finding out about Remembrance Day - where they finger painted a field of poppies, and a Valentine’s themed evening.
We had a visit from a lady from Cats Protection who explained to the girls all about what the charity does. The girls helped the charity by bringing in donations of cat food.
As always we held a number of Promise and Pot of Gold parties and summer and Christmas parties.
The girls joined with the rest of the District in May for a trip to Cadbury World which they loved and in December they enjoyed a trip to the pantomime to see Aladdin with, 7th Aldridge Rainbows and 6th and 2nd Aldridge Brownies.
Some girls took part in the Church Summer holiday club and later in the year they filled shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.
